Do You Set Daily Intentions? Why They Are Beneficial and Can Change Your Life

There is a difference between having goals and having intentions.

We may have goals of what we would like to accomplish. Goals are specific and measurable and have a quantifiable ending point.

You set a goal, and it has a start date and an ending date. i.e., I am going to paint the house, and I am going to start today. I have to have it done by the end of the month.

Daily intentions are different because they are all about what you are doing now. Intentions give you purpose and help you remain focused.

Goals have a limit or an end-point; intentions do not.

Intentions are about your values and what you want to accomplish today and in your life. How are you going to contribute value to yourself, your workplace, your family, and friends? What matters most to you? Setting intentions and reflecting on them at the beginning of each day will help throughout your day.

An intention is more about your attitude toward life. I believe living with intention is being mindful, and it is more thought provoking, more emotional.

Intentions are positive. They are related to your thoughts and values. Intentions made at the beginning of the day help you move through your day with a clear purpose. Setting intentions will make you more productive; they will give you better control of your life.

Living your life with intention is a practice, a way of life. Your intentions would be different than mine because everyone will have different views on how to live. We have different passions.

I believe the most challenging part of setting your intentions is self-reflection. We rush through each day, and we do not spend much time thinking about who we are and what we want out of life. That is why deciding on practicing intentions is so powerful.

Spend time with yourself in a quiet, safe space, close your eyes, and reflect. What is it you want? Where are you now and where do you want to be.

It is not necessary to start big; you can start with small intentions and reflect on those. Ease yourself into living a more self-focused life.

Write your intentions down and look at them every day. Read them before you go to bed so you can reflect on them and make it a practice of looking at them again in the morning; maybe when you have your coffee or when you are exercising.

I love the idea of creating something artistic such as a notebook or journal where you can add drawings and photos that symbolize your intentions, evoke emotions, and resonate internally. Something that will make you feel happy and content.

How do you feel? Be as specific as possible about what you want to happen and how you will feel when you accomplish it.

Think about your intentions, envision them, and relax. Do not let the process overwhelm you. Having a tangible written slip of paper, or a page on your computer, that you reference each day will allow you to go about each day without actually focusing on it like you would a goal. They will become an automatic part of your life.

So what would you choose as an intention for living your life every day?

Here are a few examples:

I will be happy today.

I will smile and enjoy laughter.

I will be open to success.

I will be financially stable.

I will always set a good example.

I will be a good writer.

I will be kind.

I will be calm.

By setting intentions, we are planting seeds in our minds. We plant the seeds, we tend to them every day, and then we let them grow. We internalize our intentions, and we absorb them. A mind is a powerful tool; use it and accept that human consciousness is powerful as well.

Being intentional is a choice. It is a way of thinking about what you want your life to be and becoming aware of the changes you need to make. It is a concept that can work if you allow it to. Live a mindful life and embrace your intentions. You can make your life better.

  1. Yes that is a great post, I love the idea of promoting reflection and intention, it can only help empower, thank you Linda, you have reminded me to be more intentional, which I kind of needed this morning.
