Dreams and Motivation

Saw this on a T-Shirt –  “They said don’t give up on your dreams.  So I went back to bed”  

Have you ever felt this way?  I think we all do. Somedays it just seems so much easier to stay in bed or to take a nap and sometimes that is ok because it is important to our health and well being to reenergize.

But it is not ok to make this a habit and that is so easy to do.

How do we keep ourselves motivated ?  I think it is important to create a ritual that we follow consistently.  Start each day the same way and at the same time.  Create a habit.  I am in the process of trying to do that right now with exercise.  If I get on the treadmill consistently in the morning I find I am much more likely to do it each day.  Example would be this week. I did the treadmill each day at about the same time in the morning until yesterday where I decided to do it in the afternoon and guess what, I did not do it.  So I realize I have to set that ritual.  It has to be in the morning and at approximately the same time. Preferably the same time.  There will always be some good reasons why you cannot but for the most part there should be no excuses.

Create and follow a ritual each morning that lowers stress. That could be listening to music, doing yoga, reading one chapter in a book or reading poetry or try meditation. Of course, doing these things before bed will also relax you and lead to a better night’s sleep.  Being well rested is a self motivator; you will be energized and ready to go.

Making lists or doing self visualization is also a good ritual to follow.  We all fantasize about something we would like to have happen like how we would spend all the money we win in the lotto.  How about how we would feel if we got a coveted promotion at work.  Fantasizing is great but tweak it and turn it into visualization of how you are actually going to accomplish a goal like creating and presenting a work project or a college paper or in my case writing a successful blog.  Take it step by step and see it in your mind and then do it.  You gain confidence while doing this and in the end you are well prepared.

It may not be easy to create a ritual and certainly not all at once.  But once you get started it will become easier and then you may not even think about it as a ritual; it will be a habit and your normal daily routine.  I know I am taking things in stages and there are things I would like to do but cannot because of consideration of my spouse and interfering in his schedule but I can work around that.  It will take more effort but it will be worth it.

Staying motivated can also be a challenge but I think most people are competitive and will always want to do better.  Just starting this blog was a big step for me and I want to be successful.  So I have accomplished the first step and started the blog and learned a little bit about the ins and outs of how to do it, along with Facebook and Twitter.  But there is the next step of really understanding Everything and doing all the tweaking that needs to be done.  So that is another challenge and then there will be another and another.  All those steps I know I will need to take will be my motivation. 

What is really great about it is taking that first step and learning a little bit also is motivating me to do other things as well.  I am fully invested in doing this blog and I know my motivation to be successful will keep me “Moving Forward”.


Moving Forward.....that is what this blog is about and adjusting my Time Frame. We all have a time frame although we may acknowledge, or look at our life that way, but life is our own personal time frame. I am in my early 70's and I plan on living for many more years and accomplish many things. This blog is the beginning of that process. It is my way of pushing myself along that path.
